In November 2015 the Australian Association of Gerontology engaged me to document their 48th National conference at Alice Springs Convention Center.
I really enjoyed covering this event. Something about the laid back attitude everyone (including the conference delegates) seems to have in Central Australia just makes everything seem easy and effortless. After losing my Grandfather only a few weeks before the event, and with my Grandmother suffering dementia and in full time care, I found much of the conference's content on ageing, end of life care and dementia directly relatable.
The convention center itself sits at the base of the MacDonnell range, which made a great backdrop for the welcome reception and breaks in the courtyard. Aside from the formal conference proceedings, I also covered social events at the convention centre, Alice Springs Golf Club and the historic Telegraph station, as well fresh headshots for the AAG board.
I even found a bit of time in my busy schedule to shoot a few desert landscapes, and check out some of the amazing indigenous art on offer.
